We've been hiring movers in San Diego since 2008, real employees, trained and in uniform, doing work that's physical, skilled, and never boring.

Why work at Gorilla Movers

Start with the thing most moving companies won't say out loud: a lot of them staff trucks with day labor. Someone gets picked up in the morning, works a job, and may never be seen again. We don't do that. Every person on a Gorilla truck is a uniformed employee of this company. That's a promise we make to customers, and it changes what the job is for you, a real position with a real schedule, not a gig that evaporates when the week slows down.

And in San Diego, the week rarely slows down. Moving is seasonal in most of the country. Here, people move in February the way they move in July, which means we can offer year-round work instead of laying crews off when the weather turns. We've completed 25,120+ moves since 2008, and 97.9% of our business comes from repeat customers and referrals, steady demand is what keeps a crew employed.

You'll also actually be trained. New hires go through our training course before they lead anything: how to pad and wrap furniture, how to load a truck so nothing shifts, how to move a piano without wrecking your back or the piano. This is physical work, no question. But it's skilled physical work, and the skill is the difference between a laborer and a professional mover.

One more thing, because people ask. Yes, the gorilla name means something here, we donate $5 from every move to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. It's a small line on a lot of invoices that adds up to real conservation money. You'd be surprised how often customers bring it up on the truck.

What we look for

You don't need moving experience, we teach the craft. What we can't teach is the stuff below, so it's what we actually hire for:

  • A clean background check. Every crew member is background-checked before they set foot in a customer's home, no exceptions. It's a core part of how we earn trust, so it's non-negotiable.
  • A customer-facing manner. You'll spend your day inside people's houses on one of the more stressful days of their year. Patience, courtesy, and clear communication matter as much as lifting.
  • Showing up. On time, every scheduled day. Crews are built around reliability, the trucks roll early and the customer is waiting.
  • The physical baseline. You can lift, carry, and climb stairs for a full shift. We train technique so the work is sustainable, but it's honest labor.

Pay and growth

We pay competitive hourly wages, and because the work runs year-round, the hours are real, not a summer sprint followed by a quiet winter. Crew members who show consistency move up: driver positions, crew lead, and roles running our specialty and commercial work. Most of the people leading our trucks today started as helpers.
