Planning beats muscle
Every heavy move starts with three numbers: weight, dimensions and center of gravity. Then we walk the route. Door widths, thresholds, ramp angles, elevator capacity, floor loading, turns that look fine on paper and are not. By the time the crew arrives, the path is already solved and protected.
The tools do the lifting. Machine skates, toe jacks, heavy-duty dollies, ramps and ratchet rigging move weight in controlled inches instead of heroic shoves. Floors get masonite or ram board, door frames get padding, and the machine gets wrapped before it rolls one foot.

Anything unusual gets a free on-site survey, and survey quotes are binding, so the price is settled before the toe jacks come out. Your equipment technician handles disconnects, decommissioning and recalibration; we handle everything between the old pad and the new one, including placement and leveling where the manufacturer allows it.
If a piece genuinely needs a crane or a specialized millwright, we say so at the survey instead of discovering it in your doorway. Most equipment in gyms, clinics and light industrial shops does not, and that honesty is why facility managers keep our number.

The path is the job
Almost every heavy equipment move that goes wrong goes wrong in a doorway, a stairwell, or a turn, and almost all of it was visible in advance. So the survey is mostly about the route, not the object.
We measure the narrowest point rather than the door, because the real constraint is usually a turn into a hallway or a landing rather than any single opening. Diagonal clearance matters more than width on anything tall, since a machine that will not fit upright will often go through tilted. That is a judgement about the specific machine, not a general rule: medical and calibrated equipment frequently has an approved transport orientation that has to be respected whatever the geometry allows, and we check the maker's handling instructions before planning a tilt. Thresholds, door sills, and elevator floor gaps are where skates stop and have to be bridged with plate. Ramp angle decides whether a machine can roll or has to be winched, and a ramp that is too steep for a loaded skate is the most common reason a piece has to go out a different way than planned.
Floors set the hard limits. A machine on skates concentrates its weight onto small contact points, so the question is never just whether the floor holds the machine, it is whether it holds the machine on four small wheels. Steel plate spreads that load across tile, wood, epoxy, and raised flooring. Elevators have a posted capacity that includes the crew and the equipment, and a residential or passenger elevator in an older building frequently rules itself out once you add it up. Upper floors in older buildings sometimes mean the honest answer is that the piece cannot go where you want it.
When the survey says a job genuinely needs a crane, a millwright, or a rigging specialist beyond our scope, we say so at the survey rather than in your doorway on move day. That is a better outcome for everyone than finding out with the machine half out of its bay.
