San Diego venues and what each one demands
Event labor is a venue problem as much as a muscle problem. Every room in this city has its own load-in door, its own freight path, its own union and vendor rules, and its own hard curfew, and a crew that has not worked it before loses the first hour finding out.
The San Diego Convention Center runs on marshalling yards and scheduled dock times, so arriving outside your window means waiting regardless of how ready your crew is. Downtown hotel ballrooms at the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the Marriott Marquis, and the US Grant have freight elevators that set the real pace of a load-in, and a ballroom flip between a lunch and a dinner seating is a timed exercise with no slack in it.
Balboa Park is its own category. Load-in paths are long, often outdoors, frequently over turf and decomposed granite rather than pavement, and the park's hours mean strikes happen late and resets happen before the public arrives. Booking a crew, and what you get
Crews are booked by the hour with a minimum, sized to the work rather than to a package. Tell us the venue, the load-in and strike times, what is being moved and how far it travels from the truck to its final position, and whether there are stairs, turf, or an elevator in the path, and we will tell you how many movers it actually takes and how long it should run.
You can book a single shift, an overnight strike, or a multi-day build with different crew sizes on different days, which is usually the efficient answer: heavy on load-in, light on standby during the event, heavy again on teardown. For long builds we can hold the same crew across all days so nobody is relearning the room.
Every mover is a background-checked Gorilla Movers employee in uniform, covered by our commercial insurance. Certificates of insurance with additional-insured and waiver-of-subrogation language go to the venue in advance, which most San Diego venues require before a crew is allowed through the dock door at all. If your venue has a specific vendor packet, send it with the booking and we will fill it out.
We are the physical labor layer, not a production company. Planners, rental houses, AV and production teams keep their own scope and we handle the freight, the furniture, the seating, the resets, and the strike.
