South of Grand Avenue, the Old Escondido Historic District keeps its Victorian and Craftsman homes on a walkable grid, and those houses were built for 1900s furniture. Doorways run narrow, hallways turn tight, closets barely exist, porch steps are steep, and garages, where they exist at all, sit detached off the alley. We measure before we lift, pull doors when an inch matters, and treat hundred-year-old trim like it can't be reordered, because it can't.
Head north and east and the terrain takes over. Escondido's avocado-country hillsides, out toward Hidden Meadows and the grove roads, mean long private drives, steep grades, and outbuildings full of equipment.
