Disconnect and reconnect: what needs a pro before we arrive
For safety and to protect your manufacturer warranty, appliances need to be disconnected from water, gas, air, and electrical service before move day. Gorilla Movers does not disconnect or reconnect water lines, gas lines, air lines, or hardwired electrical, that work belongs to a licensed plumber, electrician, or gas fitter. Please have those connections shut off and disconnected ahead of time, or tell us early and we will flag it so you can schedule the right pro instead of discovering it on move day.
What our crews handle is the move itself: installing transit bolts on front load washers when you have them, taping and padding doors, shrink wrapping and blanket protecting the unit, and dollying it safely to and from the truck. If an appliance simply plugs into a standard outlet we will unplug it before we load, but anything hardwired, plumbed, or on a gas or air line has to be disconnected before we arrive and reconnected by a qualified pro afterward.
Refrigerator prep matters too: empty it and let it defrost roughly 24 hours before the move. We transport refrigerators upright, and we recommend letting the unit settle for a few hours before you plug it back in, per the manufacturer guidance for your model.
Stairs, tight corners, and San Diego condo buildings
Stairs are where DIY appliance moves go wrong. We use rated appliance dollies and shoulder straps, measure doorways and stair rails before lifting, pull appliance doors when a corner demands it, and protect floors and banisters along the route.
For condos and high-rises, certificates of insurance for your building are standard with us, and we can work around elevator reservations and loading dock rules. Tell us the building when you book and we handle the paperwork.
One appliance or part of a full move
