The name is literal: streets here pitch hard toward downtown, and a loading ramp set on a steep grade behaves differently than one on a flat suburban driveway. The housing mixes lovingly restored Victorians with subdivided versions of the same houses, plus apartment blocks and newer infill near the 25th Street corridor and the park edge. Steep grades change the physics
Ramps, dollies, and heavy pieces all behave differently on a slope. We position the truck to keep the ramp as level as the street allows, chock everything, and assign extra hands to the downhill side of every heavy carry.
Victorians: tall, narrow, and worth the care
High ceilings and grand pieces meet narrow doorways and switchback staircases. We measure first, pad the original woodwork, and disassemble where the house demands, a 140-year-old newel post is not a casualty we accept.
Subdivided houses and walk-ups
Many grand old homes here are now three or four units with shared entries and interior stairs. We protect the common areas, coordinate with housemates or neighbors, and keep the path clear. It's their home too.
