San Diego Commercial Movers

A commercial move is a downtime problem before it is a moving problem. Gorilla Movers plans, quotes, and executes business relocations across San Diego County around the only number that matters to you: how fast your team is back at work.

What commercial moving covers in San Diego

Employee carrying a packed box during a San Diego commercial office move

Commercial moving is a different discipline from hauling household furniture, and it covers far more ground than desks in a truck. Since 2008 Gorilla Movers has relocated offices, laboratories, warehouses, retail stores, and medical practices across San Diego County, part of 25,120+ completed moves, and no two commercial projects run the same playbook. A 15-person law firm moving two blocks downtown needs a freight elevator reservation, a certificate of insurance on file with two property managers, and everything reconnected before Monday's client calls. A biotech company leaving Sorrento Valley needs instruments crated, transported, and staged in a specific power-up sequence. A distribution operation consolidating in Miramar needs racking and inventory sequenced so inbound freight never stops landing.

That is why every commercial project here starts with a plan, not a truck count. You get one point of contact who builds the timeline, coordinates requirements at both buildings, orders crates and labels, and runs the crew on move day. The crew itself is the other half of the equation: background-checked, uniformed Gorilla Movers employees, never day labor. When people are working inside your facility around your inventory, your servers, and your staff, who they are matters as much as how they lift.

We handle the full range of commercial work: full office relocations, internal floor-to-floor moves, lab and clinic relocations, warehouse and industrial moves, retail buildouts and store closures, and single-item jobs like moving a safe, a copier fleet, or a conference table between suites. If it belongs to a business and it needs to be somewhere else, it is in scope.

San Diego's biggest property managers already vet vendors so their tenants don't have to, and we made their lists: Gorilla Movers is a preferred vendor for Irvine Company, H.G. Fenton, and Greystar portfolios, with the COIs, documentation habits, and after-hours discipline that status requires.

Binding quotes from a free on-site walkthrough

Office computers and monitors anti-static wrapped and staged on carts for a San Diego commercial move

Most moving quotes, ours included, are hourly estimates, and hourly works fine for small, straightforward jobs. Commercial moves are neither small nor straightforward, so we quote them the way a facilities manager would want: with a free on-site walkthrough that produces a binding quote. A project manager walks both locations, counts workstations and common-area furniture, checks the dock, the freight elevator, and the path of travel, flags anything that needs custom crating, and locks in a number you can put in front of your CFO without a footnote. Fuel is itemized up front, not discovered on the invoice.

The walkthrough is also where downtime gets engineered out. We confirm building access windows, floor protection requirements, and COI language for both property managers. We map the new floor plan against a color-coded labeling system so every crate, chair, and monitor lands at the right desk the first time. We set the packing schedule, decide what your employees pack versus what our crew packs, and time the truck so your team leaves Friday from the old office and badges into a working one Monday. On move day you get a live-tracking text, so your facilities lead knows exactly where the crew is without calling dispatch.

Built for San Diego's commercial corridors

Two branded Gorilla Movers trucks at a San Diego commercial building for a business relocation

San Diego's business geography shapes how a commercial move has to run, and local experience is the difference between a plan and a guess. In Sorrento Valley and along the Torrey Pines mesa, biotech and life science moves come with sensitive instruments, vendor recalibration schedules, and multi-tenant campuses with strict dock rules. Downtown, the towers on B Street and Broadway add their own layer: certificates of insurance with specific additional-insured language, freight elevators that must be reserved days ahead, and building managers who only allow moves after 6 pm or on weekends. We carry COIs as standard practice and have the paperwork to property managers before they ask.

Around Miramar and Kearny Mesa, the work turns industrial: warehouses, shops, and flex space where the constraints are dock height, forklift access, and keeping operations live during a phased move. Our own warehouse sits on Consolidated Way in Miramar, which means storage, staging, and crews are minutes from most of the county's industrial core. From Carlsbad and Oceanside down to Chula Vista and Otay Mesa, we cover every submarket in San Diego County with the same licensed operation: CAL T-192729, USDOT 3801918, BBB A+ rated, 4.8 stars across 289 Google reviews and more than 730 reviews overall. And because a company should stand for something beyond the invoice, we donate $5 from every move to the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund.

FAQ

Commercial Moving questions, answered.

Can you move our business over a weekend or after hours?
Yes, and for most commercial clients we recommend it. We run evening, overnight, and weekend crews so the move happens while your business is closed. A typical office relocation loads out Friday evening and is reassembled, reconnected, and ready before employees arrive Monday. Many downtown San Diego buildings actually require after-hours moves, and we plan around those rules from the start.
Do you provide a certificate of insurance for our building?
Yes. COIs are standard practice for us, not an upsell. During the walkthrough we collect the insurance requirements from both property managers, including any additional-insured language, and deliver certificates before move day. If your building manager has specific elevator, dock, or floor protection rules, we build those into the plan too.
How does commercial move pricing work?
Small commercial jobs can be quoted hourly over the phone, with fuel itemized up front. For anything beyond a few workstations we quote from a free on-site walkthrough, and those walkthrough quotes are binding. A project manager surveys both locations, counts everything, checks access, and locks in a number. That is the price you budget against, which is how commercial moving should be sold.
Do you disconnect and reconnect computers and IT equipment?
Yes at the workstation level. Our crews disconnect monitors, docks, and peripherals, bag and label cables by desk, and reconnect everything at the destination so employees sit down to a working setup. For servers, network gear, and specialized systems we work under the direction of your IT team or managed service provider, handling the physical move while they own configuration.
Should our employees pack their own desks?
Either approach works, and most clients use a hybrid. We deliver labeled crates ahead of the move, employees pack their own desk contents and personal items, and our crew packs common areas, file rooms, storage, and anything fragile or heavy. Your project manager provides simple packing instructions for staff so everything is crated and labeled correctly before the truck arrives.
Can you decommission our old office and dispose of what we leave behind?
Yes. Decommissioning is often half the project: removing furniture that is not making the trip, recycling e-waste, coordinating donations, hauling debris, and leaving the suite broom-clean to your lease's surrender terms. Handling the move and the decommission with one company means one schedule, one COI, and a better shot at your full deposit back.
What insurance covers a commercial move?
Gorilla Movers is a licensed California carrier, CAL T-192729 and USDOT 3801918. We carry $1,000,000 commercial general liability with a $2,000,000 aggregate, a $3,000,000 umbrella, $1,000,000 auto liability, and workers' compensation, and we meet your building's COI requirements as standard. During the walkthrough we flag items that warrant added valuation or custom crating, like lab instruments or server hardware, so nothing is insured by assumption.
How far in advance should we book a commercial move?
Two to four weeks is comfortable for most office moves, and larger or phased projects benefit from six or more, mainly to secure building elevator reservations and after-hours windows. That said, we handle short-notice commercial work regularly. Call 619-600-5000, and if the timeline is tight we can often complete the walkthrough within a day or two.
