California Intrastate Movers

Moving from San Diego to Los Angeles, Orange County, Sacramento, or the Bay Area is not a van-line move and should not be handled like one. A dedicated Gorilla Movers crew loads your home and delivers it, often the same or next day.

One dedicated crew, no consolidation

The traditional long-haul model consolidates several households onto one trailer, which is why van lines quote delivery windows measured in weeks. In-state distances do not require that. We send one crew and one truck: the movers who load your home in San Diego are the same people who unload it at the destination.

That changes the whole experience. Your belongings never sit in a terminal, never get transferred between trucks, and never share space with a stranger's household. You get a delivery day, not a delivery window, plus the live-tracking text we send on every move.

California intrastate rules, and why licensing matters

Moves that start and end inside California are regulated by the state rather than the federal government, and any company doing them needs active California household goods authority. Ours is CAL T-192729, the Cal-T authority originally issued through the CPUC and now overseen by the state's Bureau of Household Goods and Services, alongside USDOT 3801918.

Before hiring anyone for an in-state move, verify their license is active and their insurance is real. The horror stories you read about loads held hostage on the way to LA almost always trace back to unlicensed operators. A licensed mover answers to a state regulator; a guy with a rented box truck does not.

How intrastate moves are priced

Longer routes make accurate quoting matter more, not less. We quote from a detailed inventory, and binding quotes are locked in with a free on-site survey, which we strongly recommend for any full-home move up the coast. Quotes without a survey remain hourly estimates.

Fuel is charged and itemized up front, and on a 500-mile run that line item is worth seeing clearly before you book rather than discovering after. Since 2008 we have run these routes enough times, across 25,120+ total moves, to quote them with confidence.

FAQ

Intrastate (California) questions, answered.

What is the difference between intrastate and interstate moving?
Intrastate means the move starts and ends in California, no matter the mileage, and falls under state regulation. Interstate means crossing a state line and falls under federal rules. San Diego to San Francisco is 500 miles but still intrastate, which keeps the process simpler.
How long does a move from San Diego to Los Angeles take?
Usually one day. A typical LA move loads in San Diego in the morning and delivers the same afternoon or the next morning, depending on load size and building access at the destination. Orange County runs almost always finish same day.
Will my belongings share a truck with another household?
No. Every intrastate move gets a dedicated truck and crew from door to door. Nothing is consolidated, cross-docked, or transferred, which is the single biggest reason our in-state deliveries arrive in a day instead of a multi-week window.
Can I get a binding price for a move to the Bay Area?
Yes. Binding quotes are locked in with a free on-site survey, where we walk your home and count everything ourselves. For a long in-state route we recommend it every time; estimates given without a survey are hourly and can move with the actual work.
Can you pack my home before a long in-state move?
Yes, and for full households we usually pack the day before loading. Proper dish packs, mattress bags, and TV cartons matter more on a 500-mile drive than a 5-mile one. Packing labor and materials are itemized on the same quote as the move.
Do you also move people into San Diego from elsewhere in California?
Yes. We run the reverse routes from Los Angeles, Orange County, the Bay Area, and Sacramento back into San Diego County regularly. Same model: one dedicated crew, one truck, delivery on a day rather than inside a window.
