Shipping Container Moving & Loading San Diego

An ocean container will roll, pitch and slam for weeks between San Diego and its destination. We load it so nothing inside gets a vote: blocked, braced and packed tier by tier for interstate and overseas moves.

Ocean freight is rougher than any highway

A moving truck deals with potholes. A container ship moves in three axes at once, for weeks, through salt air and temperature swings that pull condensation out of everything. Cargo that is merely stacked will grind itself apart long before it clears the Pacific.

Loading for export is a different discipline than loading a truck. Furniture gets fully wrapped, tiers get locked against each other, weight stays low and spread across the floor, and nothing is allowed to bear against the doors. That is the standard our San Diego crews load to, whether the container is going to Texas or Tokyo.

Blocking and bracing done right

Bracing is carpentry, not stuffing blankets into gaps. We build lumber bulkheads to lock off each section of the load, strap tiers to the container's lashing points, and stage the heaviest items over the floor rails where the structure wants the weight. When the doors close, the load is one solid block that cannot gather momentum.

We also keep a written inventory as we load. Your freight forwarder will want it for the paperwork, your insurer will want it if anything ever comes into question, and future you will want it when the container opens on the other side of the world.

We load, your forwarder ships

We are the loading crew, not the ocean carrier. You or your freight forwarder book the container and the sailing; we coordinate timing so the crew, the box and the driver all meet correctly. On a live load the driver typically waits a set number of hours, so we size the crew to finish inside that window instead of bleeding into detention charges.

FAQ

Shipping Containers questions, answered.

Do you arrange the shipping container or the ocean freight?
No. The container and the sailing come from your freight forwarder, ocean carrier or container line. We are the professional crew that packs, blocks and braces the load, and we coordinate our schedule tightly with your delivery window.
What is the difference between a live load and a drop-and-pick?
On a live load, the driver waits while we load, usually a window of a couple of hours, so crew speed matters. On a drop-and-pick, the container sits at your home for a day or more and we can load at a calmer pace. We work both.
How long does it take to load a container?
A well-prepped household typically loads a 20-foot container in roughly three to five hours and a 40-foot in longer, depending on access and how much bracing carpentry the load needs. Packed, labeled boxes before we arrive is the biggest time saver.
Do you supply the lumber and bracing materials?
Yes. Lumber, strapping, padding and shrink wrap come with the crew and are itemized on your quote so you can see exactly what the bracing costs. Nothing gets improvised out of your garage scraps.
Is my shipment insured on the water?
Our coverage applies to our work loading and unloading. Transit on the ocean is covered by marine cargo insurance, which you arrange through your freight forwarder or a marine insurer. We strongly recommend it for any overseas move, and our written inventory supports the policy.
How is container loading priced?
Hourly, with fuel and materials itemized up front. Quotes are hourly unless we do an on-site survey; binding quotes are locked in with a free on-site survey, which is worth doing for full-household international moves.
