One of our longest-running kinds of jobs starts the same way: a Clairemont couple bought their house off Mount Alifan or near Genesee in the 1970s or 80s, raised a family in it, and is finally moving closer to the grandkids or into a smaller place. The house is a 1950s or 60s single-story ranch, the garage hasn't held a car since the first Bush administration, and every closet has a story. We move a version of this family almost every week.
Clairemont was built in one great postwar push, and it shows in the best way: low-slung ranches and split-levels on curving streets that follow the rims of Tecolote and San Clemente canyons. Single-story homes are kind to movers and to the furniture, so the challenge here is rarely stairs. It's volume, decisions, and the occasional street where a 26-foot truck needs a thought-out approach.

Streets backing onto the canyons curve, narrow, and sometimes dead-end with no easy turnaround. We check the approach on a map before move day and, where it's tight, position the truck once, correctly, instead of shuffling it past your neighbors all morning.

Clairemont garages are smaller than modern ones and often hold 40 years of tools, holiday boxes, and inherited furniture. We treat the garage as its own room in the estimate, and our junk hauling team can clear the not-coming pile the same day.
