Data Center & Server Room Relocation in San Diego
Gorilla Movers relocates San Diego data centers and server rooms with rack-and-stack crews, drive-level chain of custody, and a phased cutover plan that keeps downtime inside a maintenance window instead of stretching across days.
Gorilla Movers relocates San Diego data centers, server rooms, and MDF and IDF closets as a phased logistics project rather than a furniture move. We label and photograph cabling before anything is unracked, move drives under numbered-seal chain of custody, transport hardware anti-static and shock-monitored, and rack-and-stack to your elevation drawings so the cutover lands inside one maintenance window instead of stretching across days. Your IT team keeps the keys and owns the technical cutover; we own the physical half. Work is scheduled after hours and overnight, and scoped from an on-site walkthrough with your infrastructure lead. Call 619-600-5000.
A data center move is a logistics project, not a furniture move
Moving a data center is not moving a room full of equipment. It is decommissioning live infrastructure, tracking every asset by serial number, protecting drives that hold your business, and bringing it all back online in an order that lets systems verify before the next one depends on them. Done casually, a rack shows up bent, a drive walks off, or a cutover that was supposed to take four hours takes the whole weekend. Gorilla Movers has moved San Diego server rooms and data centers since 2008, and we plan each one as a project with a runbook, not a truck and a dolly.
The work starts long before move day. We audit the room, photograph and label every cable, build an asset inventory down to the rack unit, and sit down with your IT team or MSP to agree on the sequence: what powers down first, what travels together, what has to be verified before anything else is racked. The plan is the product. The lift is the easy part once the plan is right.

How does a data center relocation work?
Every move follows the same phased spine: inventory and label, coordinated shutdown, decommission and cable-out, protected transport, rack-and-stack at the destination, reconnect, and verification against the pre-move inventory. Nothing is racked at the new site until it is accounted for on the list that left the old one. That reconciliation is what turns a nerve-wracking night into a boring one.
We work to your window, not ours. Most cutovers happen after hours or over a weekend so production traffic never sees the move, and we coordinate the timeline with your carriers, hardware vendors, and colocation provider so the cage, power, and cross-connects are ready the moment the racks arrive.
How is server hardware protected in transit?
Servers, storage arrays, and network gear ride in padded, air-ride transport, secured upright and shock-isolated so nothing arrives reseated or out of tolerance. Racks move on the right equipment for their weight, and populated racks are handled with a plan for their center of gravity, not muscled. Drives and any media holding sensitive data travel under documented chain of custody, logged out at the source and reconciled in at the destination.
Everything is done by our own background-checked, uniformed employees. We do not staff a data center move with weekend day labor, because the whole point is that the people touching six- and seven-figure infrastructure are accountable and trained.
How long is the cutover window?
The move runs on a runbook: a step-by-step sequence with owners, checkpoints, and a rollback for each phase. We hold the physical timeline while your team owns the logical cutover, and the two stay in lockstep so hardware is racked, powered, and cabled exactly when your engineers are ready to bring services up. If a step slips, the runbook tells everyone what waits and what proceeds.
For migrations that span two live sites, we can move in stages, standing up capacity at the destination and draining the source, so there is never a moment where everything is in a truck at once.
Who do you relocate data centers for?
We handle on-premise server rooms, colocation and cage moves, MSP and hosting relocations, and offices whose IT footprint has outgrown a closet. Whether it is two racks or a full facility, the discipline is the same, only the scale changes.
A smaller job, moving a single server, a handful of switches, or an office IT closet as part of a larger office move, is often better served by our server and IT relocation page. We will point you to the right level of service instead of over-scoping the work.

“Gorilla movers did a fantastic job moving my mother in Oceanside. Raul was incredible. From the moment he arrived, he was very strategic in how he would complete the job. I had doubts with all of the stuff we had but trusted his knowledge and experience and he exceeded our expectations! They take care of your items, asked a lot of questions and consistently checked in on if there was anything else they could help with. Raul, not sure if we could have done this move without you!! Thank you so much and than you Gorilla movers!! -Jackie, Marty, and Liz”
