The short version

Gorilla Movers runs San Diego hotel renovations and rebrands end to end: floor-by-floor FF&E removal, secure storage of what is kept, disposal of what is replaced, and a reset that lands on the general contractor's schedule. Hotel remodels run on occupancy rather than the mover's convenience, so we work around guests, stage by floor or wing, and keep noise and corridors inside the hours the property sets. We can also receive and install the incoming FF&E from our Miramar warehouse. Call 619-600-5000.

Hotel remodels run on occupancy, not the mover's schedule

A hotel renovation is a moving project wearing a construction hat. Before a single room gets demolished, its furniture, fixtures, and equipment have to come out, get sorted into keep, store, and dispose, and clear the floor so the trades can work. When the remodel is done, all of it has to come back, staged in the right rooms, assembled, and set, on the day the floor reopens for guests. Gorilla Movers has handled that cycle for San Diego properties since 2008, and we plan every remodel around the one constant: the property still has to sell rooms while we work.

That means phasing by floor or wing, working inside guest-noise windows, protecting corridors and elevators, and keeping the parts of the hotel that are still open looking like nothing is happening two floors up.

What happens to hotel FF&E during a renovation?

We strip a floor room by room, inventory and barcode what is being kept, and move it into secure, climate-appropriate storage so it comes back in the same condition it left. What is being replaced, dated case goods, old mattresses, tired soft seating, gets removed and routed to disposal or liquidation in one pass, so the GC inherits an empty, clean floor instead of a pile to work around.

When the remodel wraps, we redeliver in the reverse order, staged by room from our inventory, so the reset is a checklist, not a scramble. Nothing goes back to the wrong room because everything left with a label.

How do you work around guests and the general contractor?

We move on the construction schedule and the front desk's, coordinating with the GC on which floors are live, which elevators are ours and when, and how to keep dust, noise, and traffic away from paying guests. Protection goes down on floors, walls, and elevator cabs before anything rolls, because a scuff in a hotel corridor is a guest complaint, not just a touch-up.

Because our crews are our own uniformed employees, they present the way a hotel needs them to, and they understand that on this job the guest experience is part of the scope.

Can you receive and install new FF&E?

New furniture for a remodel rarely arrives on the day you need it. We receive and inspect incoming FF&E at our warehouse, hold it until the floor is ready, then deliver, place, and assemble it room by room, headboards, casegoods, seating, lamps, art, so the design intent shows up finished, not flat-packed in a hallway.

Receiving off-site also keeps the loading dock clear and the construction zone from turning into a warehouse, which the GC will thank you for.

What happens to the old furniture?

Stripping a hotel generates a mountain of old furniture, and hauling it is its own project. We remove and dispose of replaced FF&E in the same phased sweep as the move, and where there is resale value we can route usable pieces to liquidation instead of the landfill.

One vendor handling removal, storage, reset, and disposal means one schedule and one point of contact, instead of three crews tripping over each other on a live floor.

FAQ

Hotel FF&E & Renovation questions, answered.

Can you store the furniture between demolition and reset?
Yes. We inventory and barcode what is being kept, move it into secure storage, and hold it until the floor is ready, then redeliver it staged by room. Storing off-site keeps the construction zone clear and protects the kept FF&E so it comes back in the same condition it left.
Do you phase the work floor by floor so we can keep selling rooms?
That is the standard approach. We phase by floor or wing on the GC's schedule, work inside guest-noise windows, and protect corridors and elevators so the open parts of the hotel stay guest-ready while the remodel proceeds above or below them.
Can you receive and install the new FF&E too?
Yes. We receive and inspect incoming furniture at our warehouse, hold it until the floor is ready, then deliver, place, and assemble it room by room so the finished rooms match the design instead of arriving as flat-packed boxes in a hallway.
Do you handle removal and disposal of the old furniture?
Yes. Replaced FF&E, case goods, mattresses, seating, is removed and routed to disposal in the same phased sweep as the move, and where pieces have resale value we can route them to liquidation. You get an empty, clean floor handed to the GC in one pass.
How far ahead do you need to plan a hotel renovation move?
The earlier the better, because the move has to interlock with the construction schedule and the front desk's occupancy plan. Once we walk the property and see the phasing, storage volume, and FF&E counts, we build a timeline that lands each floor's strip and reset on the GC's dates.
Do you work with other hospitality properties besides hotels?
Yes. The same FF&E removal, storage, reset, and disposal cycle applies to senior living communities, resorts, and larger restaurant remodels. If it is a hospitality property being renovated or rebranded while it stays partly open, it is the kind of job we are built for.
How soon can you staff an FFE or renovation move?
Most hotel FFE and renovation jobs book on the project schedule, so we lock in the install or removal windows as soon as they are set and staff the crew to hit them. For faster turns between phases, call us and we will flex the crew to your timeline.
How much does an FFE or renovation move cost?
FFE and renovation moves are quoted by the scope, the number of rooms or floors, and the storage and staging required, so we price them per project. You get a written, itemized quote and a COI for the property on request.

Gorilla movers did a fantastic job moving my mother in Oceanside. Raul was incredible. From the moment he arrived, he was very strategic in how he would complete the job. I had doubts with all of the stuff we had but trusted his knowledge and experience and he exceeded our expectations! They take care of your items, asked a lot of questions and consistently checked in on if there was anything else they could help with. Raul, not sure if we could have done this move without you!! Thank you so much and than you Gorilla movers!! -Jackie, Marty, and Liz

Alex and the crew were very professional and took great care of our stuff. We booked on short notice and they were accommodating and communicated throughout the move. They even helped move some of the boxes of stuff from our garage to the appropriate rooms as we had a little extra time.

We used Gorilla Movers 7 years ago and they did an excellent job. So we hired them again for our current move and they worked so hard. This time we were moving our belongings into pods and the perfectly wrapped our furniture for a long move. They also perfectly packed the pods so we could fit all of our belongings. I highly recommend this moving company.
