Cielo Movers Who Have Driven the Hill First
Cielo sits at one of the highest points in Rancho Santa Fe, and everything about moving here follows from that. The approach is a climb, the gate is staffed around the clock, and the driveway usually drops away from the street rather than running level to it.
Cielo is a 24/7 guard-gated community of 375 home sites off Del Dios Highway in Rancho Santa Fe, sitting near 1,450 feet with views from the ocean to the mountains. For a moving company the altitude is the whole job: the interior roads climb in switchbacks steep enough to carry a TRUCKS USE LOWER GEAR sign, and a loaded box truck has to be sized for the grade rather than for the house. Access runs Del Dios Highway to Calle Ambiente to the guard gate, and the resident pre-registers the crew before move day. Gorilla Movers is licensed CAL T-192729 and USDOT 3801918. Call 619-600-5000.
The hill is the job.

The photograph at the top of this page was taken on Camino de Arriba, inside the gate, looking out over the valley Cielo is built above. The yellow sign in it says TRUCKS USE LOWER GEAR. That sign is not decoration and it is not aimed at pickup trucks. It is the reason a Cielo move gets planned differently from an estate move on flat ground a few miles west.
Cielo is 375 home sites off Del Dios Highway, guard-gated around the clock, sitting near 1,450 feet with the ocean on one side and the mountains on the other. The views are the point of living here, and the price of those views is that every house was sited on a slope. Roads switchback up to them. Driveways tip down away from the street toward motor courts set below the road. A 26-foot box truck at full weight behaves differently on both.
None of that is a problem if somebody has already driven it. It becomes a problem when a crew arrives having priced the job off a floor plan, finds the truck cannot take the grade loaded, and starts improvising a shuttle in the middle of your move day.
What we work out before the truck leaves the yard.

The grade decides the truck, not the square footage
A five-bedroom house would normally get the biggest truck we own. On a hill like this, the right answer is sometimes a smaller truck making two runs, because a loaded 26-footer that cannot pull the grade is worse than no truck at all. We decide that on the survey by driving the actual route, not by looking at the house.
The gate is a list, not a code
Cielo runs a staffed gate 24 hours a day, and residents register visitors and vendors through the community's dwellingLIVE system. We send crew names, vehicle details and our certificate of insurance ahead of your date so the guard has us before the truck arrives. The HOA office is 858-759-0970 if you want to confirm what they need from your side.
Driveways here fall away from the street
A drive that slopes down to a motor court is the common pattern up here, and it changes the plan: where the truck parks, whether we shuttle with a smaller vehicle, which way the ramp runs, and how we keep a loaded dolly under control on the way down. Gravity is doing work on every trip, and it is working against the crew in one direction.
The view costs you in carry distance
Homes built for a panorama tend to put the living space where the view is and the parking where the road allows, which are rarely next to each other. Long carries get planned as long carries: crew size set for it, floor and doorway protection down first, and the route walked before anything heavy moves.
Getting oriented up here.
The gate at Calle Ambiente
Access is Del Dios Highway to Calle Ambiente to the guardhouse, then Via Ambiente past Club Cielo and out to the residential streets. It is staffed around the clock rather than run off a keypad, so the arrangement is a list with names on it, done in advance.
Camino de Arriba and the climb
The name means the upper road and it earns it. This is the switchback country where the lower-gear sign lives, and it is where a moving company finds out whether it brought the right truck. The hairpins are wide enough for a box truck that swings them properly and unforgiving of one that does not.
Club Cielo
The community's own recreation center: two pools, a children's wading pool and a spa, a fitness center, tennis and pickleball courts, and play areas. Worth knowing on move day mainly because the route in runs past it, and traffic around it is residents rather than trucks.
Near 1,450 feet
Cielo sits at one of the highest vantage points in Rancho Santa Fe, with roads reaching toward 1,500 feet and sightlines that run from the Pacific to the inland ranges. It is also why the wind can be doing something completely different up here than it was at the bottom of Del Dios Highway twenty minutes earlier.
The neighbors
The Covenant lies west, Elfin Forest sits north, and The Bridges, The Crosby and Del Mar Country Club are all a short drive away. We work all of them, which is the only reason we can say with any confidence that Cielo's approach is the demanding one.

I had doubts with all of the stuff we had but trusted his knowledge and experience and he exceeded our expectations!
