373 miles, and the gate code matters

Moving from San Diego to Scottsdale

San Diego to Scottsdale is about 373 miles, roughly six hours on I-8 and I-10. The drive is the easy part. What decides how a Scottsdale delivery actually goes is the guard gate, the HOA move-in window, and what is in the load, because a fair amount of what comes off the truck here does not like 110 degrees.

The short version

Gorilla Movers moves households from San Diego to Scottsdale, about 373 miles and roughly six hours on I-8 and I-10. Most moves load one day and deliver the next morning with a dedicated crew at both ends, or as a consolidated shipment if a delivery window suits you better than a fixed date. What separates a smooth Scottsdale delivery from a stalled one is usually the guard gate and the HOA move-in window, both of which we collect when the job is booked, plus a certificate of insurance for Old Town buildings. From May through September deliveries are scheduled early in the morning because of the heat. Call 619-600-5000.

Getting through the gate

Much of Scottsdale north of the 101 is gated, and the gate is where an unprepared move stalls. Guard-staffed communities want the carrier name, the truck and often the crew list before the day. Associations commonly restrict moves to weekday daytime hours and hand you a window you have to hit. We ask for the gate code, the association's move-in rules and any paperwork they require when we book the job, not when the truck is sitting at the callbox.

Old Town and the Waterfront run the opposite problem: no gate, but a freight elevator to reserve, a loading zone with a time slot, and a building manager who wants a certificate of insurance before anyone touches the elevator. We issue COIs the same day you ask.

North Scottsdale brings a third set. Long private drives, low entry gates, tight desert landscaping and circular driveways that a 26-foot box truck cannot always turn in. That is a survey question, and sometimes the answer is a shuttle, which is far better to know in advance than to discover on the morning.

The San Diego to Scottsdale timeline

A typical move loads in San Diego on day one and delivers in Scottsdale the next morning, same crew at both ends. A studio or small 1-bedroom can often load early and deliver the same evening. If a delivery window works better for you than a fixed date, the same inventory quoted as a consolidated shipment costs less and usually runs five days to three weeks.

Crossing the state line makes this a federally regulated interstate move, so the mover needs active USDOT authority. Ours is USDOT 3801918 and it is worth verifying before you hire anyone for this route. From May through September we schedule Scottsdale deliveries for the early morning, which is better for the crew and better for the load.

What comes off the truck here

Scottsdale loads lean toward things that need real handling: framed art, wine, pianos, gun safes, golf equipment, outdoor furniture and glass. Wine is the one people underestimate. A trailer parked in Arizona sun in July is no place for a collection, so those deliveries get timed for the cool part of the day and the load does not sit overnight in the truck. It is a conversation for the survey rather than the driveway.

Second homes are their own pattern. A Scottsdale address is often a partial load out of San Diego going into a house that is already furnished, with a list of what goes where rather than a full unpack. Say so at the survey and the inventory gets written for it.

FAQ

San Diego to Scottsdale questions, answered.

How long does a move from San Diego to Scottsdale take?
Most moves load one day and deliver the next morning. The drive is about 373 miles, roughly six hours on I-8 and I-10. A studio or small 1-bedroom can often load and deliver the same day.
How much does it cost to move from San Diego to Scottsdale?
Typically $2,000-$3,500 for a studio or 1-bedroom, $3,500-$5,500 for a 2-3 bedroom home, and $5,500-$7,500+ for larger houses. A free on-site survey locks in a binding quote with fuel itemized up front.
What do you need from my HOA or guard gate?
The gate code or guard-gate procedure, the association's move-in rules, the permitted move hours and any document they want on file. We collect all of it when the job is booked. Many Scottsdale associations limit moves to weekday daytime hours, which shapes the schedule.
Can you provide a certificate of insurance for an Old Town building?
Yes, the same day you ask. Old Town and Waterfront buildings generally want a COI on file plus a reserved freight elevator and loading-zone slot before the crew arrives.
How do you handle wine, art and other heat-sensitive items?
By scheduling around the heat rather than hoping for the best. From May through September deliveries go early in the morning, and a load carrying wine or art does not sit overnight in a parked trailer. Flag those items at the survey so the plan is built around them.

Gorilla movers did a fantastic job moving my mother in Oceanside. Raul was incredible. From the moment he arrived, he was very strategic in how he would complete the job. I had doubts with all of the stuff we had but trusted his knowledge and experience and he exceeded our expectations! They take care of your items, asked a lot of questions and consistently checked in on if there was anything else they could help with. Raul, not sure if we could have done this move without you!! Thank you so much and than you Gorilla movers!! -Jackie, Marty, and Liz

What took me at least 8 hours of painstaking work took them less than 2. Makes me wish I used them for the loading AND unloading. Raul and Hazael were so quick and nice and communicative throughout the entire process. Makes things easier on yourself by using them if you need to move at all. It’s well worth it.

Alex and the crew were very professional and took great care of our stuff. We booked on short notice and they were accommodating and communicated throughout the move. They even helped move some of the boxes of stuff from our garage to the appropriate rooms as we had a little extra time.

We used Gorilla Movers 7 years ago and they did an excellent job. So we hired them again for our current move and they worked so hard. This time we were moving our belongings into pods and the perfectly wrapped our furniture for a long move. They also perfectly packed the pods so we could fit all of our belongings. I highly recommend this moving company.
