The fastest way to make moving easier is to work in this order: build a timeline, declutter before you pack a single box, pack soft items in things you already own, and label every box with its room and contents. Add a first-night essentials box and, if you rent, a photo walkthrough of both places. Every one of those steps cuts time off move day, and on an hourly move, time is the bill.
Hack 1: Make the plan before you make the mess
Most hard moves go wrong three weeks before the truck shows up. Someone starts packing random boxes with no timeline, runs out of steam, and ends up throwing loose items into trash bags at midnight before the crew arrives. We see the aftermath weekly.
So start with a plan: a simple checklist of what needs to happen and a date for each piece. Which room gets packed which week. When utilities transfer. When the movers are booked. Write down what you've packed as you go so you're not reopening boxes to find the router. It takes twenty minutes and it's the highest-leverage twenty minutes of the whole move.
Hack 2: Declutter like you're paying by the pound
Local moves are billed hourly, which means every box of stuff you don't actually want costs you real money to carry twice, onto the truck and off it. The cheapest item to move is the one you donated last weekend.

Then pack one box you'll open first: toiletries, phone chargers, a change of clothes, medications, basic tools, coffee gear, toilet paper. Mark it loudly and put it in your own car, not the truck. Your first night in the new place should not begin with a box hunt.
