In most white-glove moves the contents are what needs protecting. In the Coronado Village it is frequently the house. Original heart-pine and oak floors, plaster walls, narrow turn-of-the-century staircases with original banisters, and doorways built to dimensions nobody uses anymore. A gouge in an original stair rail is not a repair, it is a loss.
So the protection goes on first and it goes on properly: floor runners and paper over every carry path, banister and newel-post padding, door-jamb protection, and corner guards at every turn. On the tightest staircases we hoist or dismantle rather than force a piece, and we would rather take a sofa apart than take a chunk out of a wall that has been there since 1910.
Alleys, the bridge, and summer on Orange Avenue.
A good share of Village properties load from the rear alley rather than the street, which is usually an advantage: a shorter carry and no fight for a space on the avenue. It does mean the alley has to be clear and the truck has to fit, both of which we check at the walkthrough rather than assume.
Everything else here is the bridge. Crossing at the wrong hour costs real time, and time is what an hourly job is billed in, so we schedule the crossing rather than take whatever traffic gives us. Through the summer, when Orange Avenue and the Hotel del area fill with visitors, that planning matters more, not less.
For the Cays, access is generally easier, wider streets and driveways, but the properties are waterfront and often include a dock, a boat, and outdoor furnishings that nobody thinks to mention until the truck is loaded.
Do Coronado Shores buildings need a certificate of insurance?
The managed towers do, along with a reserved elevator window, and they enforce it. We send the certificate the same day you book and name the building or HOA as additional insured where management asks for it, then lock the elevator window so the crew is not standing in a lobby on your clock.
For the historic district, the constraint is usually the city and the property rather than a management company. Where work-hour limits or preservation considerations apply, we work inside them.
