5 Tips for Storing Large Furniture
What is the best way to store your furniture?
1. Start by cleaning
Before you put your furniture away, make sure it’s clean. Dust and debris can scratch or damage surfaces, so it’s important to remove any dirt or grime before putting your furniture pieces away. Use a soft cloth or a vacuum to remove any dirt or debris, and if any piece has a wood finish, consider using a wood cleaner or polish to protect the surface.
2. Disassemble when possible
Many furniture pieces are quite bulky when assembled for use and disassembling it can make them much easier to transport and then store. Take apart any pieces that can be easily separated, such as table legs or bed frames. This will make the process easier, as well as protect delicate components from damage.
3. Wrap and protect everything
Once your furniture is clean and disassembled, it’s time to protect it. Wrap your furniture in moving blankets or bubble wrap to prevent scratches, dents, or other damage. Use plastic wrap to protect upholstered furniture from moisture or stains. Make sure to cover any exposed corners or edges to prevent damage during transit.
4. Don’t forget labels
Once your furniture is stored, it won’t be as easy to recognize and find, no matter where it’s placed. To make finding what you’re looking for when you need it easier, make sure to label each item. Label each item with its contents and location in the unit. This will make it easier to find what you need when you’re ready to retrieve your furniture.
5. Stack and store properly
When stacking your furniture, make sure to place the heaviest items on the bottom and lighter items on top. Stack chairs and tables upside down to protect their legs. If possible, store mattresses and box springs on their sides to prevent sagging. Make sure to leave enough space between items to allow air to circulate.
