The short version

Gorilla Movers provides white-glove moving in La Jolla for homes in the Village, Bird Rock, La Jolla Shores, Muirlands, Country Club, and La Jolla Farms. White-glove means floors papered and banisters padded before anything moves, custom crating built for art, mirrors, chandeliers, and stone tops, furniture wrapped in the room it stands in, and room-by-room placement to your plan. We handle La Jolla's specific problems directly: hillside homes whose entrances sit well below street level, Village streets too narrow for a 26-foot truck, and condo buildings that require a certificate of insurance and a booked elevator window before a crew arrives. Crews are our own uniformed, background-checked W-2 employees. Call 619-600-5000 for a walkthrough.

La Jolla is an access problem before it is a moving problem.

The homes with the most in them are frequently the hardest to reach. Off Via Capri and through the Muirlands, entrances sit a flight or two below the street, which means a long carry down stairs with a cased mirror or a marble top, not a tailgate-to-door walk. Up on Mount Soledad the driveways pitch hard enough that a loaded 26-foot truck has no business attempting them, so we stage a smaller shuttle vehicle at the house and run the large truck from a flat spot nearby.

The Village is the opposite failure mode. Girard and Prospect fill by mid-morning, side streets narrow to a single lane the moment a landscaping trailer parks, and many buildings between the 1920s and 1960s have no loading area at all. We pull permits or reserve street frontage where the city allows it, stage early, and keep the carry path short and protected.

None of this is a surprise on move day, because it gets priced and staffed at the walkthrough. Access is the single biggest driver of what a La Jolla move costs, and it is the thing a phone estimate cannot see.

Art, antiques, and the things that cannot be replaced.

La Jolla households carry more fine art per square foot than anywhere else in the county, and art is where a general moving crew does damage without noticing. Paintings get built into custom crates rather than blanket-wrapped. Mirrors and glass tops travel in mirror cartons cut to size. Chandeliers come down with the fitting documented so they go back up the same way. Stone and marble move on edge, never flat, because flat is how stone cracks.

Where a piece warrants it, we bring in the crating before move day rather than building around it in a hallway. Wine collections, sculpture, and instruments get handled individually and listed individually, so the inventory says what it is rather than counting it as one more item.

Custom crates built for paintings, mirrors, sculpture, and stone tops
Floors papered and banisters padded at both homes before the first item moves
Furniture wrapped in the room it stands in, unwrapped only at final placement
Full-value protection covering real replacement value, not sixty cents a pound
Climate-controlled and private-vault storage when the two homes do not line up
Uniformed, background-checked employees, never day labor

What does a white-glove move in La Jolla cost?

It is quoted from a walkthrough, and the walkthrough quote is binding. That is not a hedge: the range between an easy La Jolla move and a hard one is wider than in any other part of the county, and the difference is rarely square footage. Sixty exterior stairs, a driveway that needs a shuttle, a building that will only release the elevator between 9 and 12, and forty pieces that need crating rather than wrapping are what move the number.

We walk the house, price crating, protection, staging, and placement as line items you can read, and lock it before move day. Fuel is itemized up front. If you want a number before a walkthrough we will give you an hourly estimate and say plainly that it is an estimate.

FAQ

White-glove moving in La Jolla, answered.

Can you get a truck to a hillside home off Mount Soledad or Via Capri?
Usually not the large one, and we plan for that rather than discovering it on the day. We stage the 26-foot truck somewhere flat and legal and run a smaller shuttle vehicle to the house. It is a normal part of a La Jolla quote, and it gets priced at the walkthrough instead of appearing as a surprise line on the invoice.
Do you crate artwork and mirrors, or just wrap them?
We build custom crates for paintings, mirrors, sculpture, chandeliers, and stone tops. Blanket-wrapping is for furniture. Crating gets scoped at the walkthrough so the materials are built or bought ahead of move day rather than improvised in your hallway.
My building wants an insurance certificate before it will reserve the elevator.
Routine, and we send it the same day you book. We can name the building or HOA as additional insured where the management company requires it. Village and Shores buildings ask for this constantly, so it never needs to hold up your date.
Can you hold our things between closing dates?
Yes. Contents go into climate-controlled or private-vault storage under one inventory rather than being split across whatever space is free, and the same crew brings them back out. Coastal humidity and salt air are a real consideration for art and antiques, which is why climate control matters here more than inland.

Gorilla movers did a fantastic job moving my mother in Oceanside. Raul was incredible. From the moment he arrived, he was very strategic in how he would complete the job. I had doubts with all of the stuff we had but trusted his knowledge and experience and he exceeded our expectations! They take care of your items, asked a lot of questions and consistently checked in on if there was anything else they could help with. Raul, not sure if we could have done this move without you!! Thank you so much and than you Gorilla movers!! -Jackie, Marty, and Liz

I recently moved from downtown San Diego to Rancho Bernardo with Gorilla Movers, and the experience was excellent from start to finish. The team arrived on time, came fully prepared, and handled everything with a high level of professionalism. Moving out of downtown can be tricky with traffic and building restrictions, but they managed everything smoothly without any issues. They were very careful with my furniture, wrapping and protecting everything properly, and nothing was damaged during the move. What I appreciated most was their efficiency. They worked quickly but never rushed or cut corners. Communication was clear the entire time, and the pricing was fair with no surprises. Overall, it was a stress free move, and I would definitely recommend Gorilla Movers to anyone looking for a reliable and professional team.

What took me at least 8 hours of painstaking work took them less than 2. Makes me wish I used them for the loading AND unloading. Raul and Hazael were so quick and nice and communicative throughout the entire process. Makes things easier on yourself by using them if you need to move at all. It’s well worth it.
